I bought silent hill 5 homecoming, and where frendly reminded to istall steam at all, on the product pack of the game nothing where mentured ether printed in the manual to install damn steam at all!!! what the f**k you need to install steam to play a "offline" and "singleplayer game", uhh man i am allways a fan of silent hill but thats the worste action of konami ever! blast away illegal copies!!! I like how steam wont update and cant seem to log on so now I can't play any of the games I paid for. Seriously, why I do I even pay for games. It just keeps telling me its having trouble with the servers. Or maybe it'll just try to login for an hour. God DAMN YOU STEAM. POS software.

COD6 on PC uses steam, its a carm peaceful game to play after getting 20 messages saying, unable to connect ot host(why can they host it then for f*** sake), unable to migrate(usless and changing host, fuc* me !!), steam has lost connection(the doom message, it just wont work, restart the fuc*ing computer.) 1/12 atepts to join a game will succeed.

I've never played a game that uses steam without encountering problems. I swear it must be coded by monkeys. Actually, I usually buy the games I play but to save myself the headache of steam, I downloaded pirated copies of games that require it. Now, usually I'm against doing this but I refuse to put up with STEAM. It never fails to make me regret using it.

I agree STEAM SUCKS BIGTIME and I will never again buy any other game that require it that is 100%!

And.. just try to get tech support from Steam. It is fair to say that problems will come with any community gaming platform of scale. But when the problems arise (crap hits the fan) Steam is nowhere to be found. No tech support phone line. All is done through forums and email. Last download purchase I made was totally dysfunctional; contacted Steam, took them 9 days to get back to me, first line of the email – WE DON’T GIVE RETURNS ON DIGITAL PURCHASES. I didn’t ask for one, not that I didn’t want one! They were no help, in fact they all but admitted that they do not give user level tech support and that the software is sold “as is” and that I was on my own. Great business model there guys… and hey, just lost another customer, but no fear, there are plenty of other suckers out there, right?

I buy a game, I bring game home, I put disc in computer, I install game..........and wait several hours for Steam to let me play the damn thing.

Steam is horrible, i will not buy another Steam game. the forced downloads are stupid and people without the internet are stuffed if they want to Start the games, but so far i can live with that. but what really makes me hate steam is the way they have killed Lan play with siblings. i liked games back in the day, where you could install a game on 3+ computers on 1 cd key, for example H.A.W.X (not steam) doesnt require a Key code UNLESS your playing online, which is fair enough, you pay to play online, but lan is free and doesn't require a Keygen, now CoD MW2 is a different story, i bought it and wanted to play land with my brothers, i figured it would require along the same lines as CoD 4 or WaW(5) a Keygen and just 1 copy of the game to install but no, Steam expects me to buy 5 fucking copy's of a 100$ (Australian) game. i dont wanna spend 500$ just for a lan game every now and then and online multiplayer maybe once every 2 weeks. its fun Multiplayer but not 500$ worth of fun, Same goes for other steam games not just MW2, left for dead 2 = same story, AVP = Same story after that i stoped buying steam games, i never even bought CSS (olny found out about it after i played MW2 had a shit Pc for a long time)

so from now on if steam brings out a game i want to play, ill just download it(they want you to anyway) and crack it, so it doesnt need steam to run.

Sometimes it connect in less than a minute, but most of the time it take MUCH longer, like 15 minutes, sometimes even ONE HOUR. I wonder what it does during this time, sometimes I just watch the Task manager and see Steam growing every 10 seconds by few kb, from 40mb to 150mb..A SHAME.

This software use 150 mb or my ram, and it does nothing but checking if my game is legal and up to date. What a waste. I wish I could teach Steam "developpers" how to code efficiently.

Not to say the constant crashes: I start steam, start a game, play one hour or so, then one hour later I try to play again, it doesn't work, I need to restart Steam which most of the time doesn't work (or take 15 minutes or more to connect), and I need to reinstall Steam.

And don't ever try to click too fast on Steam buttons, it will crash, guaranteed. I think they use apes as beta testers (if it's ever tested).

Another problem, sometimes it change the language of my games and redownload the new sounds. OBVIOUSLY, it doesn't keep the old sounds so I need to change the language and redownload all sounds anyway. When you don't have a fast internet, it's really a pain. Simple crappy solution, make a copy of the steamapps folder, as a backup in case of steam failure (which happen once every 2 weeks)..

Hopefully now I have downloaded illegal NO-STEAM versions of games that I own, and even games that I don't own to be honest. "You steal my time, I steal your games".

I recommend anyone who don't have a steam account already, to NEVER buy a game which use Steam. Instead, I encourage you to download a NON-STEAM version of those games.

i only use it to play tf2 and classic cs, and to be honest its nice that it patches it for you and you avoid all the shit we used to have to go through back in the days of the first half life mods..

on the other hand i can see how it fucking blows for people buying games in shops that require you to install and update it. also its fucking total fucking bloatware especially as i only play one game on it. why does it default to starting with windows when the login screen alone uses a whole shitload of memory (for some reason???). also its annoying seeing over 9000 adverts for other games ill never ever ever buy (and waiting for all that bollocks to load) when i just want to start tf2.

Steam is a shitty concept, shittily executed.

In my opinion Steam was almost good until the UI update. That fucked up the program.

Steam has its place, it's for people too young to know how much better gaming was without online DRM, and too dumb to buy a game and get a crack yourself so when Steam goes down you still have a copy and can actually play it WHENEVER YOU WANT.

Steam really hooks people with cheap games and a simple one-stop downloading site, but you're really just renting the games and it's all tied to your account. When that's gone, so is everything you paid for.

Having always been a big console gamer i thought I'd have another look at PC gaiming since i just bought a nice Phenom II.
Popped in to town bought FM2010 (i.e i BOUGHT IT, its on the cd in the box i have in my hand, the cd that I now own the right to install and use),

I go to install and.. wait whats this bollocks? It wants to download the game via Steam??? WTF for, i already have, own and bought the game? Its IN THE FUCKING D: drive.
So there goes that, cant wait to play, rush home moment when you first buy a game and cant wait to play. With Steam you might as well go on holiday and come back in a few weeks when its hopefully finished downloading, assuming youre lucky enough that it doesnt disconnect 7 times during this stupid ass download like mine did. Which then meant i had to start again from the beginning every time.

I like to fire up a quick game sometimes before i go to work of a morning. Trouble is, with Steam you can forget it, takes for-fucking-ever just to get steam going let alone just play the god damn game. WTF are you connecting to Steam for?!?!?! I dont give a fuck about STEAM, just play the god damn fucking game you twat. I dont have all fucking day. You just have to pray theres no update available else you may as well come back after work.

I used to think Steam was awesome and convenient until they banned me for no reason and basically stole all my games that I paid for. I tried asking tech support what happened and they were dicks about it, saying it must somehow be my fault but they'd "look into it". Then they just stopped answering me. That was over a month ago.

There is no need to find an excuse to hate Steam. It is, quite simply, the worst thing to ever happen to PC gaming. Forced updates, bugs in Steam itself (not the games) that stop you playing, forced net connections, its enough to make you want to pirate games. Like most hyped up things you hear about online, steam was a huge letdown. In fact, it's such a headache, I have to wonder if anyone over 20-25 year old range uses it. I can't imagine that anyone who knows how simple and easy and FUN games were before DRM like steam would support their crap. Game developers complain that it's necessary to combat piracy, but I never pirated before online DRM like steam's was forced on me to play games.

Why do games companies PUNISH people who actually buy their games and drive them to piracy? I had no idea what Steam was when I bought Empire Total War and assumed that it was some option like GameSpy that I personally don't have time for.

But instead I am forced to use a program that slows down my laptop and illegally prevents me from reselling games. It is so shit. In future I'll pirate rather than use Steaming Shit.

Today i purchased Order of War at EB games for $36.I was aware that steam was needed to activate the game and thought i would be able to do so without difficulty.The actual installation of steam went smoothly but as i tried to register the game Steam rudely demanded to be updated.So i thought it would not be a problem and went to go get a drink.When i returned the update was still on 0% so i gave it a few more minutes however it simply refused to load.I closed the window and then tried again to no avail.After 3 more tries the loading bar never raised above 10%.So after purchasing the game from a legitimate retailer i now cannot even play it because some fat american corporate pig(Gabe Newell)and his horde 40 year old virgin,computer programming,basement dwelling, penny pinching henchmen(valve corporation employees) are paranoid about losing a few dollars from people copying games.These fucking scum of the earth are a plague on the pc games industry and are forcing people to pirate games.One day i hope some ambitious young gamer kills them all,in fact i hope Gabe Newell is kidnapped,tied up in a basement and forced to swallow cheap rusty razor blades so he dies a slow painful death as the razors tear up his rotten insides.However short of brutally slaughtering the lot of them i hope that eventually gamers will come to their senses and boycott Valve and make the bastards go bankrupt.After all its more than what they deserve..........

Well, i usually use D2D, it has a download manager, but you are not forced to use it. I had never used steam before but was tempted into it by dawn of war 2 gold edition for £19.99 a good price for DAW2 + chaos rising i thought.. I really really really really really really really really wish i had seen this site before i gave those fuckers money. fuck its a joke that is not making me laugh.
Oh and no refunds, even tho a game that I more than beat the minimum specs for is acting all glitchy even in minimum settings with gfx card on compatibility mode. With a few exceptions that are stated on the games page, D2D do actually do refunds if you talk nice to them and can show them using words that your not a total fucktard and have tried to get the game work (they refunded me on call of cthulu)
So , we got 2 legit dl sites, direct to drive and steam, one of them has decent customer service and does refunds, does not require any additional software to play your game, and does not require you to connect to the internet before playing.

i have a steam account. i paid 100 monies to play civ v. i cannot play my game due to a 15 hour wait time for forced updates and am getting quietly furious.

i have currently been trying to play this game for 5.5 hours now. still waiting for updates. this happened the last time i tryed to play it, a couple of hours before a flight. and before that. and a couple of time before that...

The intallation of COD4 + 1.6/1.7 patch (non Steam of course!) takes 20 minutes maximum... But in Steam a 7GB game (like COD4) takes up to 5-8 hours... why? Because the CD you bought is totally useless and is just for installing Steam(ing pile of shit) and the game key... the game itself has to be downloaded via this crap software. That's the dumbest shit I've ever seen and I'm not going to buy another game that needs Steam ,,|,,

Steam sucks. I bought the game Fallout New Vegas and just it makes me loose the time with updates. I don't even care about WHO DON'T BUY THE GAME, i care about I BOUGHT THE GAME NOT FOR LOOSING TIME UPDATING... BASTARDS!

I recently closed my Steam account because I got sick of the endless updates when I only have an hour or two for games a day. They sometimes take more than that for a single game's update...

Now I torrent games and don't have to put up with any of the bullshit. Plus, my computer runs a lot smoother without Steam eating up all the resources. Win-win!

If the link dies, it's basically about a guy who posted on reddit (typically a mindless fanboy circlejerk for steam) that he wanted to sell his games and wondered what he could get for them. No selling took place but someone at Steam saw it and disabled his whole account. All games worth around $1000 gone for good because they say so.

Some people have to learn the hard way what a bunch of crooked fucks they are over at Steam. It's not bad enough that the program is shit, they are happy to rob you of all your games at any time too.

Seriously, I have wanted this game for a while (Civ V) I go to the game store to buy it and take it home, place it in my drive click all the options, all good then Steam pops up...im like wtf do you want "Hello I'm Steam ive raped Sid Mier and took over his franchise now I want to rape you to make matters worse I was capped so I couldn't install it for like two weeks I finally got it working after like 5 patches and all was good, then I got capped again it was o.k still could connect then the latest Steam patch comes barging onto my computer screen im like WTF WHEN DID I ALLOW A FUCK LIKE YOU TO POP UP ARGHHHHHH!!! Another thing the box has 'requires steam" in fine print you cant even see it then I realized if they had it where you could actually notice it...no one would buy it LOL

Fuck. I wish I had seen this page before I went out and bought several games for my first, freshly built, gaming PC. Almost every game I bought needs steam to run and the steam client keeps fucking up and forcing me to update everything like 15 times before I can even run the game once!

Hear hear! Steam is indeed one of the worst pieces of software design, put together by 1s and 0s ever.
I have a crisp new computer, nearly nothing ever crashes, I have had maybe one or two crashes in the first two months, on around ten diffrent games, and I have most certainly been putting it to work.
So do you know what can stall my system so badly, windows taskmanager cant even shut it down, and I'll have to resort to the dreaded reset button? That's right, you guessed it. Steam. I don't care what's one there, how many exclusive rights they have, what sort of deals they offer, I've uninstalled it, and I will most likely never install it again, if I have something to say about it.
I mean, I first used steam when Half-life 2 came out, several years ago, and I thought it sucked pretty bad back then, but then again, my computer probably wasnt quite up to the task (of anything, that is.). But then I come back around in 2011, thinking "Ah, it's been a long time, they're bound to have it running smoothly by now.". Stupid me. It's damn near worse than ever. I mean, what sort of application can stall a system so bad, that no other application can function, and not even the OS on which it is running is able to kill it? I can't even get a hold of google in my browser, when that piece of ill constructed code goes awol. Valve, I salute you with my middlefinger. Take your crap and keep it. Douchebags.

And just to add insult to injury, I'm done uninstalling the games and the app, first crysis 2 demo (which never worked, appearently they shut it down a couple of days before I downed it, thanks for the heads up steam), then halflife2 and finally the steam app itself, it leaves a pile worth 7½gb useless data where the games and app once was. I told you to uninstall, UNINSTALL! Its a fancy word for delete!!! So delete it, you miserable compilation of useless 1s and 0s! ARGH! D:< (If I'm ever at a party, and I'm talking software development with a guy, and he tells me he's working at Valve, I'm gonna punch him in his mouth soooo hard....)

Those folks supporting Steam always seem to have an argument from the point of view of having actually used Steam. They are missing the point when they make statements like “…downloads are automatically done for you”. It can be argued that using crack cocaine is great… if you are a user.

Steam and the like go against the idea of freedom. The debate on whether Steam is good or bad is much like the ongoing debate between liberalism and conservatism. "If you're 20 and not a liberal, you have no heart... If you are 40 and not a conservative, you have no brain".

I’ll never buy into the communistic idea of buying a game that uses Steam. I have not purchased a game in over 12 years and decided to take another stab at PC gaming after being away from it for a decade. What a mess it’s turning into. Here’s a list of things I consider good things about my old games:

1. I could and still do have a tangible good to hold in my hands (or use as a door stop if I wish)
2. I can play my old games when and where I wish
3. I don’t have to download patches if I don’t want them
4. I don’t need an internet connection to play a game
5. No usernames or passwords
6. No big brother (don’t try to argue this one… my old gamming PC was never attached to the internet
7. No firewall problems or router secured port conflicts
8. I got a chance to get out of the house and go to the old brick and mortar building
9. Total FREEDOM
10. etc…

This does not touch on the problems that Steam has if you were to buy into the concept. Things like you have to be online to play offline. Does that make sense? Trust me when I say that with certain games, even when you think you are playing offline, your internet connection still needs to be alive. Try playing CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS ZOMBIE mode offline with your network card disabled.

It’s an uphill battle being that most of the gaming world is filled with kids who just don’t know any better. My only retaliation is not to buy these games and I will not. I’m sticking with my 12 year old games for now.

I love Steam Because I con play whatever game I want to without having to keep a stack of them nearby. As for the Updating and installing, well it is your fault for not having a good enough computer OR enough patience to WAIT for your game. It's like listening to kids whine about toys. It is not that important, waiting will not make the world explode.

Ok so I bought Fallout New Vegas because I enjoyed the Fallout series, and figured the same as everybody else, yeah; install it, play the fu<king game.

As of this moment, I'm downloading like 3 gag damned gb's of "updates", before I can even play the damned thing. I supposedly have to be online, or else have internet capability, in order to play a singleplayer game...

Im really pissed, i always used steam to play tf2 and i never got problems, but in the last 2 months steam is running fucking horrible... always when i am playing tf2 i lost connection to steam and i get disconected, now i cant play more than 10 fucking minutes till i lost the fucking freaking connection. after this i haved 10 steam rating and now i have 2.3 because i cant play any game because this fucking shit lost connection >:(
